Growing up in Provo, Utah, I developed an early aptitude for both arts and sciences. My childhood was marked by a blend of creative pursuits like drawing and a keen interest in video games, which naturally led me to explore the dynamic intersection of art and technology. This foundational curiosity progressively drew me deeper into the intricacies of computer hardware and software.
After high school, I navigated a period of self-discovery, seeking clearer direction for my career. My introduction to screen-printing in high school proved pivotal; it culminated in an Eagle Scout project where I managed the production of 10,000 prints for a clean water initiative in rural China. This experience then led me to a printing role at Namify, LLC. I quickly transitioned to the shipping and receiving team, where I gained invaluable experience in meticulous attention to detail and accurate inventory management. In this capacity, I was responsible for weekly freight shipment quoting and booking, ensuring invoice accuracy, and overseeing the precise shipping and receiving of hundreds of custom marketing material packages for a diverse client base, from local bakeries to major entities like Disneyland Orlando and Ticketmaster's Corporate HQ.
In my early twenties, I relocated to Colorado, driven by a desire for new opportunities and greater independence. I initially continued my career in logistics while independently pursuing web development, a path that ignited a profound passion for Unix and Linux. During this self-taught programming phase, I returned to screen printing, working alongside local legend Markham Maes, an experience that significantly refined my craft. The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic presented a challenging period, as I faced three consecutive layoffs within a few months. It was during this time that my wife encouraged me to fully commit to an IT career, recognizing my innate passion and aptitude. Fortunately, I secured a full-time remote position as a tech support agent, providing crucial troubleshooting and customer assistance to clients across the Midwest.
I seized this opportunity to immerse myself in computer and networking fundamentals. My dedication led me to return to academic study, where I'm nearing completion of my associate's degree at the Community College of Aurora, having earned a place on the Dean's List for two semesters. Furthermore, I've diligently prepared for and successfully passed multiple CompTIA A+ practice exams, and I anticipate achieving my full certification in the near future.
Eager to apply my specialized knowledge of the Linux operating system, I joined System76, a custom computer manufacturer based in Denver, as a technical support and customer service agent. When my wife's career necessitated a relocation to Cheyenne, Wyoming, System76 graciously supported my transition to a fully remote role. I am immensely proud of my career trajectory and find deep satisfaction in leveraging my niche expertise to assist others effectively.
